In the mid-seventies in Memphis, TN, Target was signed with A&M records for a four year, million-dollar record deal. The band promptly recorded its debut album and hit the road. They would tour for about a year and a half, performing at concerts with such acts as Black Sabbath, Bob Seger, Reo Speedwagon and others. During this time their management instructed the people traveling with the members to give them no actual money, but instead to buy them anything they wanted. At the same time, a couple hundred dollars a week was sent home to their families, and they all had families. Other than these methods of compensation, the band had no idea how much money was made or spent.

Prior to recording the second album, Buddy Davis, whose father was a long time professional musician, sensed that something was wrong. During a meeting with their manager prior to going in the studio for the second album, Buddy confronted their manager. He wanted to know just exactly how much money there was and why the band was kept in the dark. At that point their manager confessed that the band had no money and in fact owed him about $100,000. Buddy became very upset and quit the band. In fact, when reviewing their second album, although Buddy Davis shares song-writing credits on 6 out of the 8 songs, he is not listed as one of the musicians on the album because he quit and did play on the second album, "Captured".

The band did go on to record a third album, though it has not yet been released. They broke up shortly after that due to the fact that they were bound by contract to either continue to work for prior management, which they were against, or buy their way out of the contract, which they could not do (not enough money). After the band broke up, the members went in several different directions with varying degrees of success and some very different career choices. The most famous of thefive was Jimi Jamison, who went on to sing lead vocals for Survivor, and has sung "Eye of the Tiger" many many times since!

I moved to Memphis 9 years ago, and in 2 months found myself in a band with Buddy Davis. I can tell you that he is an incredible guy with a heart of gold and an exceptional gift of gab! I played in that band with him for five years, and have since played with him on other occasions. He has become a very good friend of mine, and about a year ago he started telling me about this video that was shot in 1979. The result is what you are looking at now.

This DVD is entirely a home production at this point, entirely computer produced. The footage is actual footage shot with a home video recorder from the balcony of the Poet’s Music Hall in Memphis, TN, in 1979. The sound and picture have been adjusted electronically and are decent quality, but there are limitations evident due to the source tape being a 20+ yr old VHS tape. The DVD plays in all commercially available DVD players as far as I know, and includes interactive menus with Track selections as well as a “Watch our Show” or play the entire movie option. This is a real movie DVD.

I am not able to offer a guarantee at this point beyond telling you that if the DVD doesn’t play for some reason I will exchange the DVD for a new copy. Return shipping will be at the consumer’s expense, but should not be more than $1.00 as I would ask that only the DVD be returned for exchange and not the whole case.

As far as anybody knows, this is the only video of the band from that time. This is extremely rare footage of a serious Rock Band in the aftermath of the Rock-n-Roll Heyday of the 60s and early 70s. On top of that, this video was shot in a small club in Memphis, TN, making the resulting video very intimate and up-close. Fans have already found this to be a rare and priceless treasure for their collections. I hope you will too!
